Senior Classes

Within the senior classes we have a number of talented students ranging from year 7 to 10. Our focus is on building the students literacy, numeracy and behaviour management skills in order for them to succeed in a mainstream setting. The classroom is very different from a mainstream class. At Kandeer School there is only a limited number of students in each class at any given time and this therefore allows our highly trained staff to have a greater amount of one-on-one time with each student.

Students generally participate in literacy and numeracy activities in the morning and specialised activities in the afternoons. We get involved in many interesting and challenging programs to provide students with a variety of skills and improve their overall wellbeing.

Throughout the year we run a range of different programs, some of those programs include:

Project Based Learning: Students participate in weekly lessons. They learn skills and techniques to build wooden furniture and homewares, leathercraft such as wallets, coasters and cases and are learning skills in metal work.

Service Learning- Students sometimes volunteer at aged care centres. They have been involved in assisting at the dog education centre. They have also participated in graffiti removal and community clean up.

Sport Programs- Students participate in a range of sporting activities that change each term. Some of the sports include swimming, gymnastics, fitness gym classes, golf, soccer, cricket, basketball etc.

Work Experience- Students old enough to participate in work experience have been getting a taste of a career they are interested in.

Through the engaging programs on offer at Kandeer School our students are given the opportunity to go on to vocational opportunities at TAFE or return to mainstream high schools.
