Service and Project Based Learning

Students at Kandeer are given the opportunity to explore practical and hands on education. Service Learning and Project Based Learning allows students and staff to collaborate on projects for the individual, school or local community.

Project-based learning (PBL) is an approach to teaching and learning that engages students in rich and authentic learning experiences. In a PBL environment, students gain knowledge and skills by investigating and responding to an engaging question, problem or challenge. Students work collaboratively to produce products for the school and local community.

A PBL learning and teaching framework addresses cross-curricula content and learning dispositions through rigorous, authentic, hands-on, interactive learning experiences.

Current PBL groups include:

  • Music
  • Cooking
  • Lawn and maintenance
  • Outdoor education
  • 3D printing
  • Photography
  • Fitness

Service Learning was developed to enable students to have a greater understanding of their personal values and social skills, and to build positive relationships within the community. Whereas PBL projects are designed around the individual, Service Learning programs are implemented with the local or school community in mind.

Current Service Learning groups include:

  • Aged Care
  • Dog Education Centre
  • Grounded Coffee Cart
